    Abstract
Background: Cold powder or traditional mask is one of the natural beauty products that has been used for generations by both men and women to protect facial skin. The utilization of natural ingredients in the cold powder formulation aims to avoid irritation on sensitive facial skin. The cold powder formula consists of rice starch (Oryza sativa L.), jicama starch (Pachyrhizus erorus (L.) Urb), temu giring (Curcuma heyneana), cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum verum), and pulasari (Alyxia reinwardtii Bl). Phytochemical screening was conducted as a preliminary test on the simplisia and extracts of the basic ingredients for making cold powder. Objective: The objective of this study is to identify the secondary metabolite compounds present in the simplisia and extracts of the basic ingredients of cold powder formula. Methods: The study employed a series of phytochemical screening tests, including alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tannin, cardiac glycoside, steroid, and triterpenoid tests, on the simplisia and extracts of the basic ingredients of the cold powder formula. Results: The results demonstrated the presence of alkaloid compounds, cardiac glycosides, and steroids/triterpenoids in rice simplisia. Jicama simplisia contains alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, saponins, cardiac glycosides, and steroids/ triterpeneoids. Temu giring extract gives positive results for flavonoid compounds, cardiac glycosides, and steroids/triterpenoids. Cinnamon simplisia and pulasari simplisia gave similar results showing the presence of alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, cardiac glycosides, and steroids/ triterpenoids. Conclusion: The secondary metabolites present in the basic ingredients of cold powder formula are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, cardiac glycosides, and steroids/triterpenoids.
