    Abstract
The capsule filling process activity using a manual capsule filling tool at the XYZ Hospital Pharmacy Installation in Medan City takes more time and involves repetitive motion of the worker's fingers or hands. Repetitive finger or hand motion involve awkward postures, causing fatigue in workers. Fatigue that occurs in workers is identified as being at risk of causing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) through assessment using the Assessment of Repetitive Task (ART) method. The results of the assessment using the ART method for the right arm were 25, which means a high risk level, while the left arm was 15, which means a risk level. The results of the assessment on both hands indicate the need for corrective action. The improvement made was the design of the proposed Ergonomic Medical Supporting Device (EMSD) capsule filler using the Ergonomic Function Deployment (EFD) method. The research subjects were workers who served in the drug prescription compounding section at the Pharmacy Installation at XYZ Hospital, Medan City. The results of the design using the EFD method produce a capsule filler proposal that suits the user's needs. The proposed EMSD capsule filler reduces the frequency of repetitive motion in the worker's fingers or hands compared to manual capsule filler aids. This is because the capsule filler uses a press system to open and close the capsule so that workers can open or close the capsule at the same time. EMSD's proposed capsule filler also uses an injection system equipped with an adjustable doses dial for filling drug powder into capsules, thus saving time in the capsule filling process and increasing the uniformity of the weight of drug powder in each capsule.
