    Abstract
Background: Cold powder had been used for generations in Indonesia for overcoming skin problems such as acne, dullness, preventing wrinkles, shrinking pores and preventing the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays with safer natural ingredients. Temugiring rhizome (Curcuma heyneana) is a plant that has potential as a sunscreen because it has phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins that can absorb UV rays. The combination of cold powder with temugiring extract was expected to increase the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) value of each variation of the concentration of temugiring extract in cold powder preparations and determine the effective concentration of temugiring extract to be used as sunscreen. Method: In this study, cold powder was made with variations in the concentration of temugiring extract, namely formula 1: 2.5%, formula 2: 5% and formula 3: 7.5%, then determination of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) values in each formula was carried out using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method at wavelengths of 290-320 nm with an increase interval of 5 nm, the solvent used was 96% ethanol, after obtaining the absorbance value of each formula continued to determine the value SPF uses the Mansur equation. Results: The results of the SPF (sun protection factor) value determination test in cold powder with a combination of temugiring extract obtained SPF values in formula 1 which is 7.80 (ultra protection), formula 2 which is 7.95 (ultra protection) and formula 3 which is 8.33 (maximum protection). Conclusion: Cold powder with a combination of temugiring extract has benefits as a sunscreen that can absorb the sun's UV rays and in formula 1 with a concentration of 2.5% temugiring extract has an SPF value of 7.80 which can be used as sunscreen.
