Fenomena Pergadaian Swasta di Kalangan Mahasiswa (Studi Fenomenologi pada Mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara)

Abstract

The presence of numerous private pawnshops located in busy areas around the USU campus has led to students being the primary consumers of these services. This is a phenomenon that occurs and is interesting to study. The phenomenon of pawning goods carried out by students is influenced by many factors, such as lifestyle, consumer behavior and urgent needs. Not only that, some other students also use private pawnshops as a place to store goods during semester breaks from college. Students who use private pawnshop services are not only migrant students who do not live with their parents but also students from the city of Medan who live with their parents. This research aims to find out what the "private pawnshop phenomenon is like among students". This research uses the phenomenological theoretical basis of Alferd Schutz. The research method used is a phenomenologica qualitative research approach. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation methods and in-depth interviews using snowball techniques. The results of the research show that students use private pawnshop services as a choice to fulfill daily needs, the aim of fulfilling urgent needs, and the aim of fulfilling extravagant desires. Even though many students use private pawnshop services, there are still many other students who choose not to use private pawnshop services for various reasons, such as the negative stigma of pawning practices and usury, as well as having other financial alternatives.
