    Abstract
This thesis is entitled student perceptions of the Omicron varian of Covid-19 reporting (qualitative study of Communication Science students at University North Sumatera). This research was conducted to describe the perceptions held by students regarding the news submitted regarding the new findings from Covid-19, namely the Omicron variant, in which case the new findings made the scale of the Covid-19 case increase in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to find out how students perceive the news about the Omicron variant of Covid-19 using qualitative research methods. The informants in this study consisted of five main informants and five triangulated informants using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, documentation and also literature studies. This data collection technique is carried out to facilitate the course of research so that it can run well in accordance with the guidelines that have been made before. Based on the results of this study, the perceptions of the five informants are similar. The responses from the five informants considered that at this time many people did not care about the news about the Omicron variant of Covid-19 being conveyed by the media. In addition, the five informants also considered that the news might have a specific purpose, such as having to finish the vaccination program or have a specific purpose.
