Upaya Perpustakaan SMA Negeri 1 Balige untuk Meningkatkan Minat Pengunjung Siswa

Abstract

This research aimed to know the efforts of Library State Senior High School 1 Balige for improving the interest of student visitor. The method in this research is a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach where the informants are librarians at State Senior High School 1 Balige. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. Techniques for data analysis encompass data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Research result concluded that: 1. the library had not had complete collection yet; 2. the library had provided good service to users, like welcoming visitors in a friendly manner; 3. the library had already provided a comfortable library space, but the room is still relatively small and noisy because it is close to the main road; 4. the library had already provided the quite good facilities, but it still did not attract visitors because there was not toilet available; 5. reward was not given every quarter but every report card distribution where reward was given in the form of certificate and money; 6. location is not strategic because it is near the school entrance while the position of the library is facing away from the classes; 7. the library had arranged books using the DDC 23 classification system and also marked each shelf for each subject. The conclusion of the research is that interest in visiting the library State Senior High School 1 Balige is still low. This is due to location and library which are far from the classroom, the lack of procurement of library material and inadequate facilities and infrastructure.
