    Abstract
This thesis explores the multimodal elements and humor representation in memes from the 9GAG platform on X (formerly Twitter). The main problem addressed is how visual and linguistic components work together to create humor in these memes. The study aims to analyze both the visual elements of multimodal analysis and the humor aspects present in 9GAG memes, focusing on how these memes use a combination of images, text, and other semiotic elements to convey humor. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method, analyzing 10 selected memes from 9GAG on X. Data was collected through screenshots of memes that were analyzed based on their visual and linguistic content. The research employed multimodal analysis techniques to explore how text and visuals interact to generate humor and meaning. The findings indicate that the humor in 9GAG memes often relies on irony, satire, wordplay, and cultural references, enhanced by a blend of text and imagery. Visual elements, such as facial expressions or iconic characters, often work in tandem with linguistic cues to create a humorous effect that resonates with the audience. In conclusion, this study demonstrates how multimodal analysis can reveal the sophisticated interplay between visual and linguistic elements in memes, contributing to a deeper understanding of digital humor and meme culture.
