Galeri Ulos Sianipar di Kota Medan 1993 – 2015

Abstract

This research aims to explain the background to the establishment of the Ulos Sianipar Gallery in the city of Medan, the development of the Ulos Sianipar Gallery from 1993-2015, and the contribution of the Ulos Sianipar Gallery to Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM). The research method used is the historical research method which consists of five stages including topic selection, heuristics (data collection), verification (source criticism), interpretation (interpretation) and historiography (history writing). Data was collected through library research and field studies, namely conducting interviews with gallery owners, gallery managers, gallery factory foremen, as well as those related to the Ulos Sianipar Gallery as a research location and in the form of books, journals, theses, dissertations and so on, which can be helped in this research. The research results show that the Ulos Sianipar Gallery in the city of Medan was founded based on the desire to continue the business of the gallery owner's parents, driven by the strategic location of the city of Medan with the majority of Batak and Karo ethnic groups. During its development from 1993-2015, this gallery also faced several obstacles, one of which was the monetary crisis. However, with consistent efforts, the Ulos Sianipar Gallery succeeded in developing and contributing to UKM by opening collaborations with several UKM.
