    Abstract
Pasang wood from the species Lithocarpus elegans is one type of wood that is not yet widely known or used by the community. This research aims to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of Lithocarpus elegans wood at the base, middle, and tip sections of the tree trunk. The physical properties tested include specific gravity, moisture content, and shrinkage. The mechanical properties tested include Modulus of Elasticity (MOE), Modulus of Rupture (MOR), compressive strength parallel to the grain, compressive strength perpendicular to the grain, tensile strength parallel to the grain, tensile strength perpendicular to the grain, shear strength, and hardness. The tests on the specimens refer to the British Standard (BS) 373:1957 and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D143-94. The values for moisture content, wood density, specific gravity at air-dry conditions, density, specific gravity at oven-dry conditions, longitudinal shrinkage, radial shrinkage, and tangential shrinkage are respectively 14.55 - 15.04%, 0.70 - 0.75 g/cm³, 0.67 - 0.73, 0.62 - 0.65, 0.67 - 0.71, 0.13 - 0.45%, 2.92 - 5.00%, and 1.70 - 5.75%. The values for MOE, MOR, compressive strength parallel to the grain, compressive strength perpendicular to the grain, tensile strength parallel to the grain, tensile strength perpendicular to the grain, shear strength, and hardness are respectively 73965 - 102672 kgf/cm², 673 - 847 kgf/cm², 390 - 403 kgf/cm², 75 - 114 kgf/cm², 675 - 1019 kgf/cm², 16 - 52 kgf/cm², 127 - 160 kgf/cm², and 519 - 561 kgf/cm². Based on the results of this research, Pasang wood falls within strength classes I-II, making it suitable for various applications such as building materials, furniture, and construction materials.
