Struktur Anatomi dan Morfologi Serat Fibrovascular Bundle Tanaman Pelepah Nipah (Nypa fruticans)

Abstract

Nipah is one of the plants that contain lignocellulose, so in addition to being a source of food and energy, nipah also has potential as a substitute material for making wood products derived from lignocellulose. This study aims to determine the anatomical characteristics of nipah frond fibers, particulary the fibrovascular bundle (FVB), fiber dimensions and fiber dimension derivatives from nipah fronds (Nyipa fruticans). Anatomical characteristics of nipa fronds were observed based on four cross-sectional positions, namely the outer position (convex and concave), the middle position, the inner position. The measured fiber dimensions were fiber length, fiber diameter, fiber wall thickness, and lumen diameter. The derivative analysis of the measured fiber dimensions were Runkel ratio, felting power, mulshep ratio, coefficent of rigidity and flexibility ratio. The results of this study can be concluded that the number of FVB increases from the outer part,especially convex, towards the middle and inner parts. The longest fiber is in the middle position of the concave section, the largest fiber diameter is at the base position of the concave section, and the largest wall thickness is at the base position of the concave section.
