    Abstract
    Exploring the potential of non-timber forest products is one way to find information on sustainable use to further optimize non-timber forest products, the benefits of which can be felt sustainably. The purpose is to find out the potential and also the utilization of non-timber forest products in the Social Forestry area of Karo Regency. The method used is the observation and survey method by interviewing active farmer group members, then continued by analyzing data using descriptive analysis to explain and describe the potential and utilization of types of non-timber forest products in the form of plants in three villages in the social forestry area of Karo Regency. The potential of non timber forest products in the Karo Regency Social Forestry area is 14 types consisting of 12 families. The use of non-timber forest products in the Social Forestry area of Karo Regency is as essential oils, fatty oils, fruits, dyes, medicinal plants, starches, resins and also tannins. Essential oils such as cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum); fatty oils such as hazelnut (Aleurites moluccana); fruits consisting of avocado (Persea americana), palm (Arenga pinnata), duku (Lansium domesticum), durian (Durio zibethinus), jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum), mango (Mangifera indica), mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), petai (Parkia speciosa) and soursop (Annona muricata); dyes such as areca nut (Areca catechu L.); medicinal plants such as candlenut (Aleurites moluccana), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and candlenut (Aleurites moluccana); starches such as palm (Arenga pinnata) and bamboo (Bambusa sp.); resins such as tusam (Pinus merkusii); and tannins such as areca nut (Areca catechu L.).
