    Abstract
Vermicompost is intended as an organic fertilizer that can improve soil fertility by providing nutrients for plants, maintaining soil productivity and improving sustainable planting systems. Pruning is aimed at shoot leaves with the aim of assimilate being better allocated to storage organs. This study aims to determine the response of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) to the dose of vermicompost and type of pruning. This research was conducted at Jl. Balai Kelurahan, Sempakata, Medan Selayang District, Medan City, North Sumatra with an altitude of ± 25 meters above sea level. This research was conducted from January to May 2023. This study used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) method with 2 treatment factors. The first factor was 4 levels of vermicompost dosage, namely: 0, 10, 20, 30 tons/ha. The second factor is 3 type of branch pruning, namely: no pruning, pruning all secondary branches, pruning by leaving 2 primary branches. The results of this study showed that the dose of vermicompost had a significant effect on the length of the tendrils aged 2-10 weeks and the number of primary branches aged 2-10 weeks. The length of the tendrils at the age of 10 weeks was highest at a dose of 20 tons/ha. The branch pruning treatment had a significant effect on the length of the tendrils aged 8 weeks and the number of primary branches aged 6-10 weeks. The length of the tendrils and the highest number of branches were found in the treatment without pruning. The interaction between vermicompost dosage and branch pruning had a significant effect on the number of primary branches, the highest was in the combination treatment of 30 tons/ha of vermicompost and pruning of all secondary branches.
