    Abstract
    Edamame beans are a food product that has a great opportunity to be developed both in production and marketing because this product has advantages, especially in terms of taste and nutrition. Another advantage of these edamame seeds is that the seeds are larger, sweeter in taste, and softer in texture than ordinary soybeans. The decline of edamame resulted in an increase in public demand, but it was not accompanied by an increase in production. This study aims to determine the effect of colchicine concentration and the length of collicin soaking time on the characteristics of edamame soybean crops (Glycine max (L.) Merill). This research was carried out at Rumah Kasa, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan City, Sumatra and at the Biology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences which will be held from January 2024 to May 2024. This study used a complete randomized design method (RAL) with 2 treatment factors. The first factor is the soaking time (R): R1 (4 hours), R2 (8 hours), R3 (12 hours). The second factor is the concentration of colchicine (K): K1 (0%), K2 (0.01%), K3 (0.02%), K4 (0.03%). The observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, flowering age, harvest age, number of pods per plant, seed weight per plant, weight of 100 seeds per treatment, and stomata. The results showed that the soaking time only had a real effect on the plant height of 1-2 MST and the seed weight per plant. Colchicin concentration treatment only had a significant effect on plant height of 1-2 MST, flowering age, number of pods per plant, and seed weight per plant. The interaction of the two only had a real effect on plant height of 1-2 MST.
