    Abstract
    This research aims to analyze the leading agricultural commodities in each sub-district located in Simalungun Regency. The analytical tools used in this research are the Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift Share Analysis with the Differential Shift component. (DS). The results of this study indicate that there are leading agricultural commodities in five agricultural subsectors, namely in the food crop subsector, which includes leading commodities such as rice paddies, dryland rice, corn, soybeans, peanuts, cassava, and sweet potatoes. In the horticulture subsector, there are leading commodities such as red onions, spinach, green beans, chili peppers, long beans, cabbage, Siam pumpkin, Chinese cabbage, watermelon, eggplant, tomatoes, carrots, chili peppers, avocados, starfruit, langsat, durian, guava, guava, jengkol, large oranges, Siam oranges, mangoes, melinjo, jackfruit, pineapples, papayas, petai, bananas, rambutan, salak, sapodilla, soursop, breadfruit, ginger, and turmeric. The plantation subsector has leading commodities, namely rubber, palm oil, robusta coffee, arabica coffee, coconut, clove, cinnamon, candlenut, pepper, aren, and betel nut. The livestock subsector has flagship commodities such as cattle, goats, sheep, broiler chickens, native chickens, Manila ducks, and for egg-producing livestock, native chickens and Manila ducks. The fisheries subsector has flagship commodities from the cultivation of still water ponds, rice fields, and floating nets or cages.
