Kearifan Lokal Masyarakat Betawi dalam Tradisi Ondel-Ondel di Kecamatan Jagakarsa Jakarta Selatan

Abstract

Ondel-Ondel art, which is a Betawi cultural heritage in the form of a pair of dolls 2.5 meters high, was originally created as a repellent for evil and a symbol of natural balance with magical value. The aim of this research is to examine changes in the meaning, form and use of Betawi Ondel-Ondel art, as well as the causal factors, such as demographics, economics, innovation, education, colonialism and foreign culture, especially in Kampung Betawi Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. Data collection techniques use a qualitative approach with research techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. So that in the end conclusions can be drawn from the results of the research. So that in the end conclusions can be drawn from the results of the research. The research results show that Betawi Ondel-Ondel art has undergone a significant transformation from sacred to commercial meaning. Factors such as population growth, economic needs, innovation, education, the impact of colonialism, and contact with foreign cultures contributed to these changes. In Betawi Jagakarsa Village, South Jakarta, Ondel-Ondel is now seen more as a selling item in various shapes and is used for traveling buskers, eliminating the magical and sacred value that was previously attached.
