Peran Ilustrasi Buku Bergambar terhadap Minat Baca Buku Siswa Sekolah Dasar Kelas Tinggi di Kota Medan
The Role of Illustrations in Picture Books on the Book Reading Interest of High Grade Elementary School Students in Medan City
Abstract
Illustrated books are assumed to have the potential to increase reading interest. This study aims to examine the role of illustrated books in influencing the reading interest of upper-grade elementary school students in Medan City. A total of 58 students participated as research subjects, with data analyzed using simple linear regression. A rubric was used as a measurement tool to evaluate the illustrated books, while reading interest was assessed using a Likert scale. The analysis results showed a p-value of 0.539 (p > 0.05) and a t-value of -0.618, which is smaller than the t-table value (2.003). Based on these findings, it was concluded that illustrated books do not significantly influence reading interest. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.007 indicates that illustrated books contribute only 0.7% to reading interest, while the remaining 99.3% is influenced by other factors.
