    Abstract
    The cavity cleanser ingredients still have shortcomings. An ideal cavity cleanser should have low or no toxicity to pulp cells, and should not interfere with the adhesive bond of the restoration material. Citronella contains active compounds that are antibacterial so that it can be used as an alternative cavity cleanser material. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of citronella extract on Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria as an alternative cavity cleanser. This type of research is laboratory experimental research with post test only control group design using Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC® 4356™ samples. KHM and KBM values were determined by dilution method by counting the number of colonies on deMan Rogosa Sharpe Agar (MRSA) media using a colony counter. Citronella extract was diluted with DMSO through the dilution method, so as to obtain 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, and 3.125% with 4 replications in each treatment group including Chlorhexidine digluconate 2%, filled with 0.1 ml bacteria, then homogenized and incubated for 48 hours at 37˚C. After that, take 0.1 ml of the solution in the dilution procedure and then re-plant it into deMan Rogosa Sharpe Agar (MRSA) media and incubate. The research data was analyzed by LDS test, KHM of citronella extract was obtained at a concentration of 3.125% while KBM at a concentration of 50%. The results of this study can be concluded, citronella extract (Cymbopogon nardus) has an effect on Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria and can be used as an alternative cavity cleanser ingredient.
