The reading interest of elementary school students in Indonesia, especially in Medan City, is still relatively low. This phenomenon is a concern because good literacy is one of the important keys to improving the quality of human resources. Leveled reading books are one potential solution to increase students' reading interest by providing reading materials that are appropriate to their development level. This study aims to analyze the role of leveled reading books on the reading interest of high-grade elementary school students in Medan City. The study used a quantitative approach involving 58 students in grades 4-6 from three elementary schools selected using purposive sampling techniques. The research instruments were in the form of a leveled reading book assessment rubric and a reading interest scale based on the theory of Schunk and Pintrich (2014). The results showed that the leveled reading books used had met the B3 level standards. As many as 76% of students had high reading interest, 22% had moderate reading interest, and 2% had low reading interest. However, the hypothesis test showed no significant role between leveled reading books and students' reading interest (p = 0.980 > 0.05). These results reflect the need for further development in the aspects of measuring reading interest and the relevance of reading content. Some items in the interest scale are less appropriate to the context of the books used (Soekarno, Red Snapper, and Fabel Nusantara: Putri Ular). This study recommends improvements to the design of the reading interest scale and the preparation of graded reading books to be more relevant and effective in increasing students' reading interest.en_US
