This study aims to determine the relationship between self-criticism and academic stress in medical students in Medan City. Self-criticism is an attitude that is carried out by a person, due to failure and incompetence experienced, so that they view themselves as less competent, this attitude often triggers feelings of dissatisfaction and can increase the risk of stress. Academic stress referred to in this study is a condition that occurs in individuals who show academic life pressure. Academic stress arises from reactions arising from academic stressors. The sample in the study was 385 medical students in Medan City. The data collection method in the study used the Student-Life Stress Inventory academic stress scale and self-criticism The Forms of Self-criticism/Self-Reassuring Scale. The analysis method in this study was a correlational test. The results of the correlation test showed a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.531, which means that there is a positive relationship between self-criticism and academic stress in medical students in Medan City.
